magma meets mud

magma meets mud

Once upon a long long time ago deep under Cornwall molten magma rose from the depths of the earth to meet shale and mud. The heat and pressure baked the shale crystalising some of it into quartz. The magma cooled to become granite. Millions of years later after the mountain on top had been washed away, I picked up a piece and put it in the boot of my car. That is my thumb.
